WADE IN THE WATER
2026/27 Season:
This season, WADE IN THE WATER, invites singers and audiences to dive deep into the many meanings of water in our lives—its beauty, its power, its risks, and its role in shaping our city.
Across our choirs at KIPP Central City Primary, KIPP Central City Academy, KIPP Believe, Hynes UNO, and in our Festival Chorus, students explore water through song, science, and storytelling. In partnership with the Ripple Effect Water Literacy Project, we’ll connect local music and science learning with real stories from our families and communities.
Our fall program, Rain Brings Change, pairs locally-relevant repertoire with hands-on experiments to help singers understand how water moves through our city—from rain and rivers to flooding and elevation. The concert peaks with a LIVE! experiment completed by audience members while our singers perform their newly-composed bop, “Lowlands.”
After our lagniappe holiday series at The Roosevelt New Orleans and Canal Place, we come back together for our Spring concert series, Gales of Song, where music and narrative come together to inspire reflection on the emotional, cultural, and environmental impacts of water in New Orleans. During the program, quiet moments are threaded between songs to create space for audience members to write down their water stories, whether connected to rivers and lakes, or even something sacred.
These stories will begin to shape our Season Finale, Wade in the Water, at the New Orleans Jazz Market, where all of our work comes together. Please join us for an incredible season of science, storytelling, and song!
My favorite thing about New Voices New Orleans is that I can express my feelings.
